1941: Service Amid Strife - Women’s Services 2026 20c Coloured Uncirculated Coin

In 1941, Australia established three women's auxiliary services that would change the nation's military forever. The Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force (WAAAF), formed in March, ultimately saw almost 27,000 women serve. The Women's Royal Australian Naval Service (WRANS) followed in April, and the Australian Women's Army Service (AWAS) in August — the only non-medical women's service to send personnel overseas. Together, these services freed men for frontline duty and paved the way for women's full integration into the Australian Defence Force.
